Statistics prove the value of completing a college education. Each year thousands of guests pour into the college fair that showcase between 65-100 colleges and universities. There are also workshops on scholarships, college life, financial aid, and other key topics for obtaining a successful education. For example, during the college fair workshops and seminars are presented on matters that are essential to actually getting through the entire college experience. These workshops include how to prepare an attractive high school academic record, how to show up at a college recruiter’s table, scholarship interview etiquette, and how to make the most of your college career.
The primary goal for the college fair is to expose African-American high school students, from Prince George’s County, MD, on the importance of finishing high school and continuing to successfully complete college. We accomplish this goal by bringing college recruiters from all over the country, of various demographics, to one location. The recruiters provide guests with an opportunity to ask questions about colleges and compare the answers.
Go-to-High School, Go-to-College
The KEL College Fair is our vehicle to conduct the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s National program on advanced education awareness called Go-to-High School, Go-to-College. Through the Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College educational initiative, high school students receive information, learn strategies that facilitate success, and understand that college completion is the single best predictor of future economic success.
The program concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. In addition, Alpha men provide youth participants with excellent role models to emulate.
